Our focus here at Harrison Schmitt Elementary is to help your children improve and master concepts and skills in the areas of Math and Language Arts.  By strengthening our programs in these areas we help prepare our students for college and career readiness.  You may think that they are young and the thought of having a career or going to college is a future plan.  It all starts right here in the elementary schools.  Every skill mastered builds upon another. Below you will find strategies used in our schools to achieve such goals.

  1. In the core reading program we are implementing the New Mexico Common Core State Standards.
  2. Tier II is an intensive intervention program (Title 1) that uses data to drive instruction in Math and Language Arts.
  3. Professional Development is a critical part of EPSS because teachers need training in order to successfully implement new strategies and programs.
  4. Teachers are given Collaboration time in order to deliver targeted instruction and support to students as needed.
  5. Monitor Reading and Math Instructional Programs to ensure that curriculum is delivered in an explicit and systematic manner adhering to the fidelity of the program.
  6. Data Analysis is a dialogue around how students are performing to establish action steps to address gaps.
